According to John Ickes, Sr. Principal Industrial Designer for Tennant
Company, the T500 design was the result of an effort to think
differently about the productivity and cleaning challenges our customers
face each day and provide them tangible solutions through the execution
of the product. “We understand that managing a cleaning business or
being an operator of a machine each has its unique issues and
opportunities. Therefore, when designing the T500, we focused not just
on the machine performance, but also on the holistic process of
cleaning. By observing how our customers work, we were able to develop a
product solution that aligned with their needs to manage their cleaning
programs more effectively.”
“We are extremely proud of our GOOD DESIGN Award and appreciate being
honored once again alongside well-known design visionaries such as John
Deere®, BMW®, and Apple®. We strive to
build products that match world-class aesthetics with the performance
and user experience our customers demand. Additionally, we view each new
project as a challenge to go beyond what has been done before and
continue to seek new ways to surprise and delight our customers. More
than just aesthetics, good design begins with empathy for our customers
and the challenges they face in their daily cleaning efforts. At the end
of the day, our products only have one chance to make a good first
impression, and we feel that good design is a key differentiator in the
marketplace,” Ickes added.
For 2017, the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design
received submissions from several thousand of the world’s leading
manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms from around the
world representing the most important and critical mass of influential
corporations worldwide in the design industry from over 48 countries.
All awards and winners are posted on The Chicago Athenaeum’s website at
chi-athenaeum.org. This is the sixth time Tennant has been recognized
with a GOOD DESIGN Award. Each new product launched since 2013 has been
bestowed with the honor.
About the T500 Walk-Behind Floor Scrubber
The
T500 is a family of battery-powered, walk-behind floor scrubbers. It
features on-board generation of an activated water cleaning solution
called ec-H2O® NanoClean that does not require additional
detergents. The design emphasizes ease of use by maximizing operator
sightlines and integrating training aids, such as color-coded controls,
maintenance touchpoints, and useful features such as trash bag, spray
bottle, and wet floor sign holders. A touch-screen interface allows
operators to create and save preset machine settings as well as watch
instructional videos about machine operation and maintenance. The
machine is available with five different cleaning heads, each optimized
for specific cleaning tasks and specific floor surfaces. The end result
is a product that helps customers decrease operator training, improve
productivity, be kind to the environment, and enjoy an exceptionally
clean floor.
